Who knew you needed a strong stomach for romance
Clicked in July 2006 / Italy (*album)
Once upon a time in Florence… actually it happened two years ago when I was honeymooning in Italy. Italy confused my brains as there used to be sunlight sometimes until 2100 hrs. The above picture was shot at 2030 hrs and look at the amount of light streaming in from the back. It took me a while to stop listening to my internal clock / mind that kept telling me that it was either 1500 hrs or 1700 hrs when in reality it was 2000 hrs. The brighter side of all this light were the romantic possibilities… we spent four wonderful and memorable days in Florence.
Sigh! A beautiful night it was… the daylight made it even more magical. The love of my life sitting in front of me, the smells and sounds of a local Trattoria, lots of wine and a wonderful porcini mushroom dish to come… things couldn’t get any better or so I thought. The porcini mushroom that came was so big it looked like a piece of steak. Mushroom being one of my favorite things in the world and that Italians cooked it so well made the moments that unfolded completely memorable. As we waited the crowd started to flow in, both old and young and very loud, after all they were Italian
I had not been feeling well prior to the trip and whatever I had decided to tag along for the honeymoon. Here I was unwell and brimming with nausea sitting in front of my darling wife and food that I love the most and it was obvious what was on my mind. And it definitely was not romance. Every smell that normally would excite me, take over my senses until I dissolved blissfully into the surroundings made me cringe and gag and gag and cringe. I spent the time at the Trattoria between bathroom visits and trying extremely hard to keep the food down… all with a smile on my face.
